The Arsenal of the galères was a site of Marseilles which accommodated condemned to the forced labors, the galériens. It was located on the left side of the Old man-Port, was wedged between the Cours Jean-Ballard and the Cours Estienne d' Orves.

The galériens condemned to row on the royal fleet of war were then marked with red iron with the letters G.A.L.

  • 1665 - 1673: work of enlarging of the arsenal directed by Nicolas Arnoul, intendant of the galères of the king during this period.
  • 1685 : new enlarging to the current street Extremely-Our-Lady.
