Arroio Trinta

Arroio Trinta is a city Brésil ienne west of the State of Santa Catarina.

Origin of the name

The origin of the name of the city is rather curious. At the beginning of the colonization of the area, the basic food of the colonists was the Polenta and the mill with flour nearest was to approximately 18 km from there, in the locality of Bom Sucesso. The course was done then with foot or horse, and the way, very sinuous, crossed 30 times a small brook, which crosses the city and is thrown in the Rio São Bento. This anecdote was worth its name at the city, arroio meaning “brook” and trinta “thirty”.

Geography

Arroio Trinta is located by a Latitude of 26º 55 ' 58" south and by a Longitude of 51º 20 ' 21" west, with a Altitude of 480 meters.

Its population was of: 3516 inhabitants with the census of 2007. The municipality extends on 94 km ².

Arroio Trinta is to 432 km in the west of the capital of the State, Florianópolis. It is attached to the Microrégion de Joaçaba, in the mésorégion Western of Santa Catarina.

Its climate is moderate and wet, at the fresh summers, with an annual average temperature of 17 °C.

IDH of the city was of 0,798 in 2000 (UNDP).

History

The first known inhabitant of the area of the current municipality of Arroio Trinta would be a Caboclo established in these places between 1900 and 1930. In 1924, several families of origin Italy, come from the south of the State de Santa Catarina (Criciúma and Urussanga), settle in the area.

At the time, this territory was the crossing point of Tropeiro S which made the trade of the Tabac and the Yerba subdued between the locality of Perdizes (today Videira), Bom Sucesso (municipality of Iomerê), Arroio Trinta and Herciliópolis (municipality of Água Doce), and the Paraná.

The locality, built with crossed of two ways is called first of all Encruzadilha (“crossing”, in French]. The first mill is built there in 1925, and a Scierie in 1929. A school opens at the same time. In 1943, the locality becomes district of Videira. Lastly, the December 15th 1961 acquires its political independence as a municipality.

Economy

The local economy is based on the Agriculture, in particular the breeding of Volaille S and Lapin S, as well as the Apiculture.

Culture and tourism

Approximately 97% of the population of the municipality are of Italian origin. The Italian culture is very present there, range in particular by the “center of the Italian traditions of Arroio Trinta” ( Centro of Tradições Italianas de Arroio Trinta , in Portuguese), founded in 1990. The center organizes many demonstrations having for goal to promote the traditions local inherited the Italian culture.

Every year, the municipality celebrates the following festivals:

  • in June, a “Italian dinner dancing” ( Jantar Dançante Italiano );
  • in July, the “festival of Notre-Dame of the Fields” ( Festa de Nossa Senhora back Campos ), holy owner of the municipality;
  • on December 15th, the birthday of the municipality.
