Around unibande

The Around unibande or Buse unibande ( Kaupifalco monogrammicus ) is a Rapace of the family of the Accipitridae. Commun run on the African continent, it nourishes the small vertebrate ones.

Description

There is no sexual Dimorphisme at this species. 36 cm length, this raptor is overall gray slightly bluish, with the barred black tail of a white band and the black end of the wings. It presents on its white throat a vertical black line. The white belly present the many ones and fine black bars giving him a moucheté aspect.

Behavior

Food

Carnivore and predator, it nourishes the small vertebrate ones, like Lézard S, Serpent S, small Mammifère S and young Oiseau X.

Reproduction

It builds a nest of brushwood on the fork of a tree or in the crown of a palm tree. The laying generally counts from 1 to 3 eggs.

Habitat

One especially meets it in the raised savanna of tropical Africa up to 2000 m of maximum altitude.

Distribution and population

This bird, present exclusively on the African continent, has a world population estimated at 100,000-1,000,000 individuals.

Statute and safeguarding

This bird, because of its broad distribution and of the apparent stability of its population, is classified by IUCN in category LLC (minor concern).

It is however protected since 1979 by the QUOTE, which placed it in appendix II.

Philately

Several states emitted stamps with the effigy of this bird (see some examples here): the Central African Republic in 1988, the Gambia in 1978, the Guinea-Bissau in 1991, the Ivory Coast in 1965, the Liberia and the Uganda in 1999 and the Zaire in 1982 (see " Bonds externes" for more details).
