Arnouville-lès-Mantes

Arnouville-lès-Mantes is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 9 km in the south of Mantes-the-Pretty.

The name of Arnouville would derive from a proper name of Germanic origin, Arno , and Latin , villa , firm suffix .

The inhabitants are called Arnouvillois.

Geography

The commune of Arnouville-lès-Mantes is on the plate of Mantois. It is bordering on Breuil-Wood-Robert and Guerville in north, of Rosay and the Villette in the west, of Boinville-in-Mantois and Hargeville in the east and of Septeuil and Saint-Martin-of-Fields in the south.

It is an agricultural soil, partially wooded, dedicated to the cereal field crop.

The commune is served by the MINOR ROAD 65 connecting Mantes-the-Pretty to Thoiry.

History

Three seigniories divided the territory of Arnouville to the Middle Ages: Binanville, Souville and Arnouville.

The common one took the name of Arnouville-lès-Mantes in 1926 to be distinguished from Arnouville-lès-Gonesse, then located in the same department (Seine-et-Oise)



Monuments

  • Saint-Aignan Church: church dating from the 12th century, modified at XVIe and XIXe centuries. The bell-tower in square tower covered of a pyramidal slate roof goes back to 1690.
