Arnould de Vuez

Arnould de Vuez is a painter originating in the Flanders born with Saint-Omer in 1644 and died in 1720. It will be active with Lille of 1695 to 1720.

Family and education

Arnould de Vuez is resulting from a modest family Saint-Omer: his/her father committed himself like soldier in order to nourishing his eight children. He leaves his city for Paris in order to improve. He settles then in his uncle, a canon of Venice then to Rome where he gains the first price of drawing of the Académie Saint-Luc.

Career

The artist, with Paris, is under the protection of Charles Le Brun at the court of Louis XIV. With died of Lebrun, it is established at fifty years with Lille, which offers better future prospects to him. Vauban built there the queen of the citadels: the city is again under development full since the conquest of the city by Louis XIV. Arnould de Vuez receives orders of the religious institutions of Lille and its neighborhoods: Carmelite friars of Douai, Benedictines of Marchiennes, Jesuits of Cambric,… Its style likes because it is at the same time deeply impregnated of Italian Renaissance and the direction of the colors of Flemish artists like Rubens and Antoon Van Dyck.
