Arnoul d\' Audrehem

Arnoul , lord of Audrehem still named Arnould d' Audeneham , Arnoul d' Oudeneham , from denehan, was born between 1302 and 1307 and died in 1370. It is Marshal of France of 1351 with 1368 and carries Oriflamme of France, of 1368 to 1370.

It is a knight of minor nobility of the Boulonnais, originating in Audrehem. One knows only very little of things on its family, if it is only his/her father, who prénommait Baudouin, were knight in 1307 and still in life in 1327. It also had a nephew of the name of Jean de Neuville, who was temporary marshal between 1356 and 1359 and which was useful under its orders, until 1368. Who more is, it married Jeanne de Hamelincourt, widow of Jean de Walincourt between 1348 and 1351.

It makes its appearance at the court of France into 5 (1332]], and takes an active part in the fight against the kings Edouard III of England and Charles the Bad like against the Grandes companies. Thus, it orders two forwardings of help to the king of Scotland David Bruce, in 1335 and 1341. Ten years later, it is named captain of the king in Brittany by Philippe de Valois. It takes part in the defense of Ploërmel, but cannot prevent its rendering. In 1346, it takes part in the seat of Aiguillon, before joining Calais and being captured there, at the time of the rendering of the city in 1347.

Jean the Good appoints it captain of war of the county of Angouleme in 1349. It is again captured by the English at the time of the combat of the Saint-Georges Vault in 1351. He becomes Marshal of France between on June 21st and on July 1st, 1351. The same year, it is named lieutenant of the king in Poitou, Saintonge, the Limousin, Angoumois, Périgord and of the countries between the Loire and the Dordogne. To this load comes to be added in 1353, the lieutenancy of the king in Normandy. The following year, it takes the fortress of Landal with Broualan by surprised and captures there Hugues de Calveley.

In 1355, it loses its preceding lieutenancies with the profit of that of Artois, Picardy and “Boulonnois”. It defends Bolted it against the Chevauchée of Edouard III in October 1355. It takes part in the catch of Évreux and Breteuil on the Navarrese party, between May and August 1356. This same year it takes part in the continuation of the troops of the duke of Lancaster which conceal with the Eagle, before being made once again prisoner at the time of the Bataille of Poitiers (1356).

October 24th 1360, it is named to advise of the king then captain of the king in Languedoc in 1361, then lieutenant of the king for this same area in 1362. In 1362, it takes again the fortresses of Peyroux and Sages on the Large companies. In 1363, are the fortresses of Mirepoix and the Gévaudan like those of Peyriac and Gabian in June 1364. It is replaced there by Charles of Anjou in 1364. It follows Of Guesclin to Spain where it lent help to Henri de Transtamare. It are beaten and captured at the time of the Bataille of Najera in 1367. Released in 1368, it joined the duke of Anjou at the time of his countryside in Provence. It dislocates its load of Marshal of France in 1368.

In 1370, it takes part in the continuation of the ride of Robert Knolles, under the orders of Of Guesclin. They catch up with it and beat it with Pontvallain, Vaas, Fillet-on-Dormouse and Bressuire. Wounded or sick, he dies in Saumur, the beginning of the month of December 1370.

He will have been until his end the companion of Of Guesclin initially in the fight against the English under the reign of Jean the Good until in 1364 then of Charles V until in 1380.

By order of the King, his funerals took place with Paris, with the Célestins in December 1370.
