Arnold Böcklin
Arnold Böcklin (October 16th 1827 with Basle - January 16th 1901 with San Domenico in Italy) was a Artiste German Suisse , painter, draftsman, graphic designer and sculptor.
Biography
Of 1845 with 1847, it studies with the Academy of the Art schools of Düsseldorf. He undertakes then a trip study in Suisse, Holland and France. He works of 1850 with 1857 with Rome. Of 1860 with 1862, it teaches as professor with the Academy of the Art schools of Weimar.
Work
Its most famous fabric is the Peinture the Island of the dead . Let us announce also its playing self-portrait with the Death of the violin (1872). Beside Ferdinand Hodler, of max Klinger and Lovis Corinth, it is one of the principal representatives of the German Symbolism which marked a rupture with academic painting and the naturalism of second half of the 19th century. Surrealist like Giorgio de Chirico, El Salvador Dalí and max Ernst saw in him one their predecessors and greeted it like a “brilliant and ironic artist”.
