Arnaud de Cervole
Arnaud de Cervole (towards 1300 in the Périgord - May 25th 1366) known as the Archpriest was a famous chief Mercenaire in the Grandes companies at the 14th century and a daring French partisan.
Biography
Wire junior by the family of the lords of Cervole in current the Lot-et-Garonne, it enters the clergy. It did not have like only inheritance, though secular, that the Archiprêté of Vélines (évêché of Périgueux) which is had by Arnaud de Cervole on a purely hereditary basis. In 1359, the Dolphin Charles attracts it with his service but, after the Paix of Bretigny (1360), Cervolle gathers its Truck drivers again, leaves to devastate Burgundy, and forces the Count de Nevers to treat with him. It then returns to fight for the king Charles V, who gives him the title of Chambellan: it pushed back the Tard-Venus.
It is proposed to him to lead the Grandes companies in Croisade in Spain (a crusade was planned to make leave the companies the kingdom of France under the reign of Jean II the good), but it is challenged and Bertrand of Guesclin discharges this mission then. The voyage of Spain was right from the start an army of help to Henri de Trantamarre, to help it to take again the throne of Castille against Pierre Cruel the, combined of the English. It gathers its people and gets under way. The May 25th 1366, it is killed by one of its soldiers whereas his army camps close to Mason, before passing the Saone.
