Born the June 18th 1925, Arnaud Desjardins is one of the first Westerners to make discover with French, through televised documents, some great ignored spiritual traditions of Europeans: the Hindouisme, the Buddhism (Tibetan and Zen) and the Sufism (mystical of the Islam) of Afghanistan.

The man: its life, its work

Arnaud Desjardins initially belonged to groups Gurdjieff, its first contact with a teaching of self-knowledge. Educated in a Christian medium protesting, it also nourished its thirst for spirituality while remaining in a monastery Catholique Trappiste. Being strongly interested by the Yoga, this realizer for French television chooses to turn of films to India, which will be worth to him the notoriety of its first film, Ashrams . It is thus thanks to its many voyages and its passion for spirituality, that it will bring back several filmed testimonys and that it will write many books.

Its thought lies within the scope of a spiritual tradition transmitted by its Master, Swâmi Prâjnanpad, with which it will engage after having met and having filmed wise several traditions. He says himself parking tradition of the Adhyatma yoga, connects Advaïta védanta. This current of the hindouism is based on the Védas, more particularly the Upanishads. While being said very open to the dialog with the great spiritual traditions, that they are Eastern or Western, it remains faithful to the teaching of its Master.

Arnaud Desjardins speaks about this spiritual approach in these words: “a way of erosion of self-centredness compatible with the various creeds and religious convictions”.
