Army of national release

The Armée with national release ( ALN ) constituted the armed wing of FLN in war against French colonization in Algérie as from November 1954. The fight was led as well to the level of the Algerian big cities as in the most moved back places of the interior of the country (in particular maquis). The organization obtained a staff as of a military organization by which the zones of combat were divided into 5 military regions, with the head of each area a chief was named who was subordinated on a hierarchical scale to the Chief of staff.

In front of repression by the French forces, the leaders of the rebellion had to constitute deposits of weapons in territories Tunisian and Moroccan. The armament came primarily from Egypt, from where the forwarding of Suez in 1956, and was conveyed via the Morocco or the Libya.
Starting from 1957, the arrival of weapons coming from Europe increased, in particular thanks to the communist French called the “carriers of bag”.

The organization of resistance was elaborate on the basis of Guérilla. This encouraged Moslem Algerian hitherto peaceful to join the French Army through suppletive units. The objective of the ALN being to attack moral of the enemy as well as the destruction of his economic and military installations. Thanks to this organization, the Algerian Revolution set up the first stakes of an institutional army.
