Army corps
A army corps is a military unit.
It is a creation of Napoleon Bonaparte, which used it for the first time, at the time of the countryside of Austria in 1805 within the Large army. It gathered the divisions this one in great units interarmes ordered by its marshals, these groupings were sufficiently small to live on the country, if they borrowed different routes, being thus freed from the need for a Logistique and allowing them a great mobility. But, separated from less than one day of walk, they could concentrate on a decisive point very quickly, at the time of a major battle. This concept of decentralization of the forces, then of concentration, was validated by very the great victories of Austerlitz in 1805, then of Iéna and Auerstaedt.
Following the increase in manpower to the XIXe century, the army corps became a subdivision of the Armée and specialized, often losing its character inter-arm.
