The armorial bearings of Nigeria are one of the national symbols of the Nigeria.

Description

The eagle at the top of the emblem is a symbol of force. The green and white striated band, which points out the colors of the national flag, refers for the green to the Agriculture, and for the white with peace and the unit. The black ecu symbolizes the richnesses of the country, whereas the bands silver plated in form of Y points out the two principal rivers which sprinkle Nigeria: the Niger and the Bénoué. The white horses of each with dimensions are a symbol of dignity. The flowers on the ground are Crocus, flower national of Nigeria. Finally the text “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress” (unit and hope, peace and progress) is the national currency.

History

These armorial bearings are a national symbol of Nigeria since the creation of the country on October 1st 1960. They were modified only once, during the change of currency which in the beginning was “Unity and Faith”.

Use in Nigeria

The representation of this blazon is obligatory in all the public edifices of Nigeria, it must be placed at the left of the portrait of the president.
