Armenia City in the Sky

Armenia City in the Sky is a song of the British group The Who, published with the first track of the album The Who Sell Out at the end 1967.

This song was recorded with the studio has studios IBC of London, on October 20th, 1967.

Characteristics

It is one of the most original songs of Who. She was not even written by a member of the group, but by the former comrade of room and driver of Pete Townshend John Keene. It is the first time that the group played a song written for them by a person external with the group.

The song is very Psychédélique. She starts with a distorted voice enumerating the days of the week, imitating a radio ( The Who Sell Out is truffle of this kind of jokes, the disc being listened like a parody of radio program). The voice grows blurred quickly, leaving the place to a long note played by a French horn, which gives the true beginning of the song. The guitar plays some simplistic agreements; the low one and the battery carries out a basic rate/rhythm. What makes the song so complex, they are copper arrangements. Trumpets, Trombones and horns were used (played by John Entwistle). Townshend also decorated the song of some effects to the guitar. All that gives an oneiric atmosphere.

It is Keith Moon which sings here, with a particularly acute voice. At the end of the song, one hears a jingle Radio operator London, English pirate radio station. The company having the rights of the jingle tackled the group in justice for this use, but a compromise could be reached
