Armen Takhtajan
Armen Takhtajan (born in 1910) (or Armen Leonovich Takhtadjan or Takhtadzhian) is a Botaniste soviéto - Arménie N and one of the most important figures of the Biogéographie, Taxinomie and vegetable evolution.
Takhtajan works with the Institut of botany Komarov of Leningrad, where it develops, in 1940, its system of traditional Classification of the plants to flowers based on their relations Phylogénétique S. Its system is discovered by the botanists Occident with only after 1950. At the end of the years 1950, it starts a correspondence and a collaboration with the American botanist Arthur Cronquist (1919-1992), whose its system of classification is strongly influenced by its collaboration with Takhtajan and other botanists of Komarov.
The Classification of Takhtajan is a traditional Classification plants with flowers (Angiospermes) is based on a division (phylum), Magnoliophyta , with two S the Magnoliopsida (or Dicotylédone S) and the Liliopsida (or Monocotylédone S). These two classes are subdivided in subclasses, then in superorders, orders and families. The system of Takhtajan is close to that of Cronquist but is more complex in the higher levels taxinomic. It privileges the small orders and the families, according to their evolutionary characteristics and their relations. The system of Takhtajan is still largely used in particular with the Botanical garden of Montreal.
Takhtajan also developed a system of floristic areas.
Takhtajan belongs to the Academy of Science of Russia, is foreign member of the National Academy off Sciences since 1971.
