History

The Armavia company was created in 1996, but its commercial flights began only in 2001. In 2002, an strategic alliance with the second Russian company Siberia Airlines was installation. The Russian company then became the principal holder of Armavia.

In October 2002, Armavia accepted its first Airbus A320-200 which was followed of a second in August 2003. These planes were the property of the company Ansett Australia which went bankrupt in 2002. In 2003, the principal Armenian company Armenian Airlines went bankrupt and Armavia dealt with the operation of the flights of the ex-company. However, Armavia immediately did not start to make flights towards Europe (such as for example towards Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfort). Indeed, another named Armenian company International Armenian Airways (Հայկականմիջազգայինավիաուղիներ) which exploited only one Airbus A320, registered EK-32001, operated the commercial flights bound for the large European airports like Paris and Frankfurt. After the bankruptcy of this other company, Armavia recovered the flights towards the Europe, which made of it the largest Armenian company. In 2006, Armavia opened a new line towards the airport of Tel Aviv. More recently, several new frequencies towards the European big cities, like Paris and Amsterdam, were launched what extends the number of connections Erevan - Paris to 3 per week instead of 2 before. Air France also signed an agreement of unilateral division of codes with Armavia, which authorizes the Armenian company has to sell tickets Air France under the name Armavia, but Air France does not sell Armavia tickets yet.

After having widens its air park with two Airbus A319-100 built in 2004 and which served the American company Independence Air until its bankruptcy, Armavia envisages to add new apparatuses to its new fleet to carry out connection towards the United States, a Erevan line - New York - Los Angeles should be born soon, as well as flights towards London, Milan and perhaps even towards Asia.

Armavia launched its program of fidelity there is some allowing the passengers travelling with this company to obtain free tickets at the end of 10 one-way flights/return or 20 simple one-way flights.

The Armenian company recently announced that it was going to receive new a Airbus A320 as well as a " regional apparatus of Russe" manufacture; without specifying of which type. It also indicated the opening of new roads towards the Germany, the France and obviously Los Angeles. However, the company did not confirm yet the rumors (which circulate already since more than one year) of acquisition of a Airbus A330.

Float

The fleet of Armavia is made up of:

Here serial numbers of the Armavia planes:

  • 4L-TGL : Boeing B737-300

  • EK-32008: Airbus A320-200
  • EK-32011: Airbus A319-100
  • EK-32012: Airbus A319-100
  • EK-42345: Yakovlev Yak-42
  • EK-42417 : Yakovlev Yak-42
  • EK-86118 : Ilyushin IL-86

Iliouchine IL-86 pertaining to Armavia was before the property of Armenian Airlines. After the bankruptcy of this company, Armavia inherited this plane. According to last information, this apparatus would not be in a position to currently fly. It carried out especially connections between Moscow and Erevan because it is the largest apparatus of the air park of the Armenian company. The Airbus A320 of Armavia flew to the colors of Ansett Australia before being operated by the Armenian company which rented them. As for A319, it belonged to Independence Air, an American company.

Armavia held 2 Antonov Year-24 which it withdrew from its fleet recently. It had also a Tupolev which it has not used any more for approximately a year. The company also exploited others Airbus A320-200: It withdrew from them one of its fleet in 2004 and the 2 others have summers destroyed in May 2006: the first crashé the May 3rd in Black Sea and the other Airbus A320 was destroyed in the night of the 4 to the May 5th in Belgium in the fire of a hangar of maintenance of Sabena Technics whereas the apparatus was in maintenance. These accidents considerably reduced the size of the fleet of Armavia, but the two destroyed planes were rented what means that they will not be long much in being replaced. After the two incidents which destroyed two Airbus A320 of Armavia, the company received on May 18th, 2006 a new A319 Airbus which also flew to the colors of Independence Air. This addition was already envisaged before the catastrophes occur and the company is not probably long in adding new planes in its fleet.

In addition to the addition of this A319, the Armenian company declared that it will widen its fleet with other apparatuses Airbus which will enter in service after May. The company announced that its future apparatuses will be either of the Airbus A320 or of the Airbus A319. A long mail could also be integrated into the fleet of the Armenian company to soon ensure a possible connection towards the the United States. Several years before, Armavia used ATR, which are small planes, however the company did not apéciés them and thus withdrew them from the fleet. Armavia recently declared that it aimed at getting small American planes, probably Canadair CRJ 600.

The planes envisaged with the purchase are apparatuses of the family Airbus A320, of which one which will be ordered directly in the European manufacturer for average connections. For the transatlantic flights under consideration by Armavia, a Airbus A330 or a Boeing 767 should be used. A 747 could also be used, however this plane has a too great capacity as passengers for this company, it is thus not very probable that it uses one of them.
