Arithmetica

Arithmetica is an old text in Greek, bearing on the Mathématiques and the arithmetic one, written by the hellenized Babylonian mathematician , Diophante, at the 2nd century. On the 13 volumes, six volumes only are preserved; and four additional volumes are known by their Arab translation.

Diophante provides a collection of 130 problems of Algèbre giving the numerical solutions of given equations (to single solution) and unspecified.

The equations of this book are called “equations diophantiennes”. The method to solve them is called “Analyze diophantienne”. The majority of the problems of Arithmetica lead to quadratic equations. However,
