In Mathematical, the arite of a function or a operator is the number of arguments or Opérande S which it requires.

A function or an operator can thus be described like unary, binary, ternary, etc Of the terms like 7-surface or n-ary is also used. The addition of two numbers, for example, is a binary function. The opposite function, which associates with an element its reverse, is a unary function.

Sometimes it is useful to regard a Constante as an operator or a function of arite 0 called nulaire (or anaire ). For example a formulation of the Axiome of the choice claims that for each nonempty unit, there exists a function nulaire which can be used to take a value as a whole.
