Aristoloche clématite

The Aristoloche clématite ( Aristolochia clematitis ) is a herbaceous plant of the family of the Aristolochiaceae.

Description

It is a plant of Mediterranean origin preferring the grounds limestones and wet (edge, thicket). Today, one also meets it in all the Central Europe.

It is a herbaceous plant (20 to 80 cm) with drawn up and angular stem. The sheets are broad and Cordiforme S (in the shape of heart). The Fruit 5 cm in diameter is a small capsule in the pear shape. Aristoloche clématite also has Stolon S undergrounds.

The flowers of Aristoloche clématite are yellow and release an unpleasant odor. They form a tube of approximately 3 cm, per which the insects penetrate, attracted by the nectar. The “trap” thus formed contains the Pistil and the cheesecloth S, bodies male and female of the plant. The pollinating Insecte S are mainly small flies. Once in the receptacle, the Pollinisateur S cannot escape because of the hairs of the conduit directed downwards. These insects thus will take care of the pollen contained in the Anthère S. the hairs fade then, which releases the insects. Those convey without their knowledge the Gamète S males of the plant towards another individual, and thus ensure the reproduction of the Espèce.
