Aristobule II
Aristobule II was a king of Judaea Hasmonéen.
Wire of Alexandre Jannée, he détrôna his brother Hyrcan II, and became king de Judée in the year 70 av. J. - C.
With died of Salome Alexandra in 67 av. J. - C., Aristobule enters in conflict for the throne of Judaea with his/her brother Hyrcan II. Hyrcan east demolishes close to Jericho then takes refuge in the fortress of the Temple. The two brothers make peace: Aristobule will be king while Hyrcan is satisfied with the title of “ brother of the king ”. But the strong man of the party of Hyrcan, the governor of the Idumée Antipater, does not accept this agreement. He involves Hyrcan with Pétra near Arétas III of Nabatène which entrusts an army to him. Aristobule is overcome and is locked up in Jerusalem. The Roman general Scaurus then makes raise the head office of Jerusalem. Arétas is withdrawn with Philadelphia and Aristobule can beat the partisans of Hyrcan with Papyron.
Delivered by the Roman that it had called with its help, it is not long in being scrambled with them. Besieged in Jerusalem by Pumped, it was taken after a long resistance in -63, and sent captive to Rome.
He managed to flee in -57, tried to raise Judaea again, but was overcome, taken one second time. In -45, Jules César releases it to send it in Syria with two legions and to prevent Pompée from mobilizing troops. But the partisans of Pumped poisoned Aristobule. Marc Antoine made later send his skin in Judaea, where it received royal funeral.
