Arica

Arica is a port city of the North of the Chile, and the capital of the Province of Arica, in the Región de Arica there Parinacota. It has a population of 161.333 inhabitants (census of 1992), and is known like the “city of the eternal spring”.

Arica was the theater of the one of the most famous episodes of the Guerre of the Pacific (1879-1884), the catch of the Morro de Arica in 1880. Until this time, the city belonged to the Peru.

Close to the city is the valley of Azapa, a Oasis where Légume S and Olive S of Azapa are cultivated. Economically, it is an important port, and its dry and tropical climate, its beaches, made of Arica a popular tourist destination. It is also a railway center of communications with Bolivia, and it has an international airport.

Arica is also known like one of the places inhabited driest in the world, according to measurements of pluviometry: precipitations annual averages are of 0,8 Misters.
