Arial was provided with Microsoft Windows since the introduction of technology TrueType with Windows 3.1. TrueType itself was thought to replace the police forces of the Type 1 used by PostScript. Microsoft also tried to supplant PostScript itself with its own version of Langage of description of impression, TrueImage.

The last versions of Microsoft Windows are also provided with Arial Unicode ms , a version of the police force including of many international characters of the standard Unicode. This version of police force is most complete in broad distribution, even if more complete police forces exist however - such Bitstream Cyberbit or Code2000.

Ultimate PostScript includes from now on Arial near Helvetica as a standard police force, that the PostScript printers of level 3 are supposed to support.
