Ari Hjelm

Ari Hjelm (born the February 24th 1962 with Tampere in Finland), known under the name of “Zico”, is currently Finnish trainer and former player of Football Finnish. He is the current trainer of Tampere United in Veikkausliiga.

Biography of player

He began his career of footballer in 1981 with FC Ilves. In 1987, he was elected better Finnish player of the year.

In 1988-89, Hjelm signs for Stuttgarter Kickers in Bundesliga but it succeeded in not maintaining the club in the first division. There will remain still a season with have to go up them in Bundesliga , without success.

In 1990, there decide to return in Finland in its club of its beginnings to FC Ilves, he will remain two years before being bought by FC Sankt Pauli.

In 1992, it returns to Germany for played to FC Sankt Pauli in Bundesliga 2. There will remain two years, before turned over to FC ilves.

There will remain one season with FC ilves before joining HJK Helsinki in Veikkausliiga where he will gain the cut of Finland. Then in 1996, it decides to take its retirement.

National team

Hjelm obtained 100 selections for the Finnish national team. It held the record of the number of selections for Finland, before being exceeded by Jari Litmanen in 2006. He is also the second best striker of Finland (after Litmanen) with 20 goals. Hjelm was at its time the captain of the Finnish national team.

Biography of trainer

He begins his career of trainer in 1999-2000 with Tampere United of which he is always the current trainer. In 2001, it gains the championship of Finland. It currently gained three championship of Finland as a trainer.
