Argonay is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Savoie and the area the Rhone-Alps.
The parish, called Argonnex existed already at the 11th century as attest it files found with the Château of Barioz. Initially property of the lords of Monthoux, it passed to the counts, then with the dukes of Savoy. Notwithstanding some French intrusions, she knew a peaceful existence until our days.
The Concordat of 1801 annexed the parish of Argonnay to that of Pringy, its neighbor. In February 1879, a hurricane uprooted 283 trees of the commune and did many damage. The war of 14-18 cost the life 18 men of the commune.
Since its origins, the population remained stable, between 140 and 300 inhabitants, occupied with the agricultural activities. In 1960, thirty-five farms still carried their milk to fruit-bearing of Chauffaz. In 2002, he remained nothing any more but one farmer resident on the commune.
The change started to be done, starting from 1963, when the commune accommodated the new factory of Dassault Aviation (more than 500 paid). Other companies followed with Wirth and Gruffat (machine tools, 82 paid), the new Société of Bearings, the Figel (agro-alimentary, 150 paid) and the Maped (scissors, school stationery and of office, 180 paid), but also of many artisanal companies.
The small village started to benefit from an important prosperity and accommodated hundreds of new inhabitants, of 437 inhabitants in 1954 and the commune passed to 1.886 H to the census of 1999. In 2002, there is as many employment than inhabitants.
Into 1971, Argonnex changes name and becomes Argonay
The commune is located at the confluence of the rivers of the Fier and its affluent, the Fillière. It is directed full south and profits from a remarkable sunning and a panorama. It is located at 5 km in the north of Annecy, close to the trunk road, going towards the Roche-sur-Foron, Annemasse and Geneva.
The limitrohpes communes are Annecy-the-Old man, Pringy, St-Martin Bellevue and Villaz.
