Arezzo is a Italian city, chief town of the province éponyme, area of Toscane.

Geography

The commune of Arezzo is located at the junction of three of the four valleys which compose its province:
  • In the north of the city, the Casentino, the valley traversed by the first course of the Arno,
  • In the North-West, the higher Valdarno, the course of active Arno of Arezzo towards Florence,
  • In the south, the Valley di Chiana, a drained plain of its initial marshes, crossed by the large channel of Chiana,
  • In the east, the Valtiberina, first course of Tevere by the valley of Torrino and the valley of Cerfone.

The territory of the commun run vast and is varied: plains of the Valley of Chiana and on Arno, of the hills in the south of the city, the mountainous areas located at the east.

History

Arezzo was one of the principal Etruscan cities ; according to the texts it belonged to the Etruscan Ligue. It produced exceptional objets d'art the such Chimère of bronze, preserved at the national archaeological museum. To, the city passed under the control of the Romans who named it Arretium . It became a very active center of production of objects out of metal, and especially of sigillée Céramique with the beautiful color coral, from where its name of corallini .
