In Botanical, the areola is at the Cactaceae the zone in hollow of the plant from which leave in beam the spines, the woolly hairs, the sheets, the Méristème S of the new branches and the flowers.
The areola would be the result of the evolution of cactées which would have been protected from the aridity of their environment by the reduction of the normal Ramification of the plants in only one point in order to limit perspiration.
The term comes from the Latin areola , meaning haloes, small round zone.
