Area of the Rivers
The XIV Area of the Rivers is one of the fifteen areas of the territorial division of the Chile. Limit in north with the IX Area of Araucanie, in the south with X Area of the Lakes, in the east with the Argentinian Republic and in the west with l´' Pacific Ocean. The area formed after a separation of the Area of the Lakes and in viguer after the October 2nd 2007 is composed by the province of Ranco and the province of Valdivia. Its capital is the town of Valdivia. It takes into account a surface of 18.429,5 km ² and an estimated population á the year 2006 of 373.712 inhabitants. The area is composed by the provinces of Ranco and Valdivia being indicated like regional capital the town of Valdivia. The area of the rivers appeared separation of old the Région of the Lakes when into effect the law Nº20.174 came, the October 2nd 2007.
