Area of Košice
The area of Košice ( sk Košický kraj into Slovak) is one of the eight administrative areas of the Slovakia, located at the east of the country.
Geography
The area of Košice is subdivided in 11 districts:- Gelnica District;
- Košice I;
- Košice II;
- Košice III;
- Košice IV;
- Košice-okolie ;
- Michalovce District;
- Rožňava District;
- Sobrance District;
- Spišská Nová Ves District;
- Trebišov District.
History
The first traces of habitat date from the Paléolithique. The old Slavic agglomeration obtained the rights of city in 1342. At the 15th century, Košice occupied by its figure in population the third place in the hierarchy of the Hungarian cities. A fall of the trade resulting from the danger consisted Turkish and the wars of the states led to the 17th century with the decline of the city. In 1777, the university was renovated and became the royal Academy. April 5th, 1945 the National front of the Czechs and Slovak proclaimed there its governmental program, from which the first Czechoslovakian constitution resulted after 1945.
