Area of Hokuriku

The area of Hokuriku (北陸地方, literally Ground of North ) is an geographical area belonging to the Région of Chūbu, on Honshū, the principal island of the Japan.

One defines usually this area as including/understanding the prefectures of Toyama, Ishikawa and Fukui (to which one adds sometimes the Préfecture of Niigata). However, it is said that the prefectures of Niigata and Nagano together form an area which one names Shinetsu. The area formed by these five prefectures is named Hoku-shin' etsu (the north of Shinetsu).
