Area of Bas-Sassandra

the area of the Bas-Sassandra is located at the south-west of the Ivory Coast, close to the Liberia. Its regional capital is San-Pedro and it covers the chief towns of department of Soubré and Sassandra as well as the sub-prefectures of Large-Béréby, Tabou, Grabo Gueyo and Large-Zatri.
- This area of the Ivory Coast is the place of the most beautiful beaches of the country. In addition, unlike east of country and of Abidjan, it is only place of Gulf of Guinea or it “bars” exists not, which authorizes the bathe without danger, which is not the case in the remainder of the country, because of the presence of many Requins beyond this “bar”.

the area of the Bas-Sassandra is one of richest country in particular thanks to the port of San-Pedro which is the second of the Ivory Coast after that of Abidjan. However, its population is very weak (440.000 inhabitants, is only 3,6% of that of the country).
- It is in this area that unloaded in first the explorers Portuguese at the 15th century. Thus, Sassandra , Fresco and San Pedro preserved the consonance Portuguese E.
