The official name of the commune is and remains Ardes . One notes however the frequent use, even within the administrations, of a name of use Ardes-on-Couze .

Dominating the borough, " the finger of Mercœur" , turn ruined, vestige of the Castle of the formerly powerful family of Mercœur.
