Ardabil

Ardebil اردبیل , also Ardabil , in the past Artavil are a historical city of the North-West of the Iran. Ardabil is the capital of the Province of Ardabil. Its population is estimated at 650  000 people whose majority are Azeri. Considered for its tradition of manufacture of Silk and carpet. It is here that is fall it from Sheikh Safî AD-DIN, which gave its name to the dynasty Safavide.

Localization and climate

Ardabil is to 70 km of the Caspian Sea. Near this sea and republic of Azerbaïdjan, the city has a great political and economic importance.

Ardabil is located in an opened plain, to 1500 m of altitude, just in the east of the mount Savalan (4811 m), where breath a wind froit until the end of spring. The winters are very cold, with temperatures falling with -25°C, and the summers are moderated, with temperatures maxima of 35°C.

History

The history of the province has close links with those of the close Azerbaïdjan. The province is supposed to date from the time Achéménide. It is mentioned in the Avesta, where it is known as that Zoroastre was born at the edge of the river Araks and wrote its book in the mounts Savalan. During the conquest of Iran by the Islam, Ardabil was more the big city of Azerbaïdjan, and until the period of the invasion Mongolian E remained.

Shah Ismail Ier began his countryside to nationalize the government of Iran and his territory since this province, but then made Tabriz his capital in 1500. Ardabil however remained a political and economic center of importance until modern times.

The complex of Sheikh

Safi-AD-DIN-E-Ardabili is an impressive monument, composed of several buildings: mausoleums of Sheikh Safi and Shah Ismail Ier, a mosque, Chini khaneh (meaning the house of the porcelain ), Jannat Sara ( the house of the paradise ), Khanaqah ( the house of the dervishes ), Cheragh Khaneh ( the house of the lamps ), Shahid khaneh ( the house of the martyrs ) and Chelleh Khaneh. The room under dome of the mausoleum of Sheikh Safi, called " Allah-Allah" , has an octagonal plan.
