History
The city, formerly called Arcaloï , before becoming Arcueil, owes its name with the arches of the first aqueduct built by the Romans to bring the water drawn to Rungis to the thermal baths of Lutèce, on the site of the current museum of Cluny. The commune was attached to the parish of Gentilly, just like the hamlet of Cachan whose stories intersected.
Arcueil is a city appreciated like vacation resort, in particular by Ronsard then by the Marquis de Sade.
To the 17th century, the construction of the aqueduct Médicis , in honor of its silent partner, on the layout of the Roman aqueduct, gives importance to the village.
April 27th 1894, Arcueil absorbs the hamlet of Cachan, the commune is called from now on Arcueil-Cachan .
The urbanization of the commune accelerates, one attends with the installation of the place of the church (to the site of the old cemetery) and the construction of the first allotments.
Following disagreements between Arcueillais and Cachanais, the law of December 26th 1922 creates the commune distinct from Cachan.
The mayors Emile Raspail, and more recently Marius Sidobre and Marcel Trigon, marked the city.
In 1922, after Fernand Brochand had crossed the Atlantic as a recluse of Martinique with the La Rochelle, this last offered the remainder of its coconut cargo to its birthplace of Arcueil. However, during transport, those opened and the coconut juice was spread on all the route of the vehicle which conveyed them at the time when they entered Arcueil. Some claim that these coconuts then attracted a population mainly communist to settle in the city.

Arcueil, in spite of its modest size, has a heritage architectural, cultural and environmental rather rich.
