Archipelago of Molène

The archipelago of Molène is a Breton Archipel , located in the Finistere, to 3 marine Milles in the west of the Conquet.

The small islands close to the principal islands which are attached there to low tide often bear the name of Lédénes, i.e. “extension of the island or the adjacent island” (Lédénes Vraz, Lédénes Vihan, Lédénes Bannec…)

Economy

If the fishing and the exploitation of the algae are always practiced, tourism and the activities of leisures generate an increasing share of the economic activity of the archipelago.

Environment

The archipelago of Molène is characterized by its plate low depth and strong currents, which stimulates the aquatic life there.

Fauna

August 1st In addition to a colony of large dolphins and gray seals, the archipelago shelters many species of Poisson S and of Crustacé S. It also constitutes a space of nesting for the birds, like the seagulls brown, silver plated and marine or the terns caugek and pierregarin, and a place of fishing of choice for the Cormoran S, gannet, but also the Héron S, which can be observed on the Estran S of the islands. These last are also populated of Lapin S and Rongeur S.

Flora

August 1st Known for its laminar fields of spectacular, the archipelago presents a generally close-cropped terrestrial vegetation, but comprising sometimes wild Fleurs in quantity.

Reserve biosphere of Iroise

The archipelago of Molène is recognized for its natural heritage rich and diversified and saw itself decreeing the label Man and Biosphère (the Man and Biosphere) by UNESCO in 1988. This label proposes to preserve the brittleness of certain mediums which could be degraded by a Surexploitation of the resources or an estival Surfréquentation tourist.

Natural reserve of the sea of Iroise

Bannec, Balanec and Trielen is the three islands of the archipelago of Molène which constitute the Natural reserve of the sea of Iroise. Difficult access, these three small islands is classified in natural reserves or ornithological and is placed under the protection of SEPNB (Company for the study and protection of nature in Brittany).

Site Natura 2000

In addition, the archipelago is classified site Natura 2000, in special Protection zone, which must make it possible to preserve biological diversity and to develop the natural heritage of the territory, by allowing the implication of the various actors and users.

Natural marine park

The archipelago of Molène is in the middle of the Natural marine park of Iroise, first Natural marine park of France, created after the abandonment of a project of marine National park.
