Archiloque

Archiloque , in Greek old Ἀρχίλοχος/ Arkhilokhos , born with Paros in 712 av. J. - C., rich citizen then ruined, gotten rid of and vindicatory lover, exiled, mercenary, colonist with Thasos, it finishes killed in an obscure battle with Naxos in 664 av. J. - C.

Archiloque had been born from noble and of a slave, it carried out the adventurous life of a roughneck soldier, selling his services as mercenary, and appreciating the brawls. He was the Master of the invective, and in its poetries, he showed the company divided into classes and defended the free blooming of the human person. Realistic, without illusions on the values exaltées by its contemporaries, towards the end, it does not evoke any more the warlike victories and glory of the heroes, but deplores or recriminates by considering only its own disappointments in love.

It was one of largest Greek lyric poets the. He was a refined versifier and a writer of combat, known for his malicious and wild satires, dreaded by his enemies. He is regarded as the creator of poetry in worms iambic, poetry of passion and the corrosive satire. Only some fragments of its work reached us: fragments of its Elegies and its Iambes .
