Archibald Cox

Archibald Cox, Jr (1912-2004) was an American man of law.

He is Solicitor General (general legal consultant), with the 3rd rank of the ministry for Justice, under the presidency of John F. Kennedy, then of Lyndon Johnson, in 1961-1965. It defends the Civic right in several businesses, including front the Supreme court.

May 19th, 1973, it is named independent special prosecutor to inquire into the Affaire of Watergate. He claims recordings of the White House. October 20th, the president Richard Nixon request her reference, and not to obey this order, the Attorney General Elliot Richardson resigns. Cox is replaced by Leon Jaworski, but Nixon will end up giving in July 1974 the magnetic bands who accused it, pushing it to the resignation. The reference of Cox illustrates the importance of the role of the prosecutor independent in independence of American justice.
