Archeozoology

The Archéozoologie is a coherent whole of techniques of reading of the contained informations in the collections of animal vestiges resulting from the archaeological sites (characteristic macroscopic, microscopic and molecular) and in the archaeological data which are associated for them (chronological, space, functional contexts). The archeozoology mainly aims at contributing to the history of the natural and cultural relations between the man and the animal (Anthropozoologie or Domestication).

The archeozoologic collections of references are whole of classified objects, whose biological sources and characteristics are known, in such a way that they can be used on the one hand as current reference for the determinations taxinomic, anatomical, sexual and ontogenetic of the animal vestiges resulting from the archeological sites, and on the other hand of material for methodological research aiming establishing and at validating the techniques of the archeozoology (skeletal criteria, fossil Morphométrie, histology, molecules, stable Isotope S).
