Archdiocese of Vancouver

The archdiocese of Vancouver , in the Canadian province of the Colombia-British, was canonically set up the September 19th 1908 by the pope Saint Pie X. Its archbishop is Mgr Raymond Roussin and its highly skilled archbishop is Mgr Adam Joseph Exner. The prelate sits at the Cathédrale of the Saint-Rosary of Vancouver.

History

Simon Fraser and its lieutenant Jules-Maurice Quesnel is the first explorers and inhabitants of the territory britanno-Colombian. They are also catholics. In 1894, it yields teritoire to create the apostolic Préfecture of Alaska, and again in 1936 to create the Diocèse of Nelson and in 1945 to create the Diocèse of Kamloops.

This diocese has a surface of 119.439 km ². There is nearly 397.000 catholics in Vancouver, that is to say 18% of the total population. They Were only 67.000 or 10% in 1950. Hundred eighty priests carry their ministry in seventy-seven parishes.
