Archdiocese of Munich and Freising

The archdiocese of Munich and Freising is a metropolitan archdiocese of Roman rite created on April 1st, 1818, succeeding the Diocèse of Freising. The archdiocese is located in the town of Munich, in Germany. Its Latin name is Archidioecesis Monacensis and Frisingensis . The current archbishop is Mgr Friedrich Cardinal Wetter, whose resignation for reason of age has just been accepted by the Holy See. Its successor should be soon established, while the Wetter Cardinal will preserve the highly skilled title of archbishop of Munich and Freising.
