Arcas

In the Greek Mythology, Arcas is the son of Zeus and Callisto, and the king éponyme of the province of Arcadie.

Its history diverges much according to the versions. His/her mother, changed into ourse, having been killed by an arrow of Artémis, Arcas is collected and raised:

  1. by Hermes, dispatched by Zeus. In this version, Arcas, adult, go in Arcadie where it is made recognize of his grandfather, the king Lycaon, who associates it with the capacity. He learned how in Arcadiens to sow corn, to make bread, to weave and spin wool, all things which he held itself of Triptolème. After the disgrace of its grandfather, there remains alone on the throne;
  2. by Lycaon. This one will kill it later to be used it to eat with Zeus. The god, after having struck down wire of Lycaon and having changed the king himself into wolf, will ressuscitera Arcas to put it on the throne.

After its death, it would have been placed in the sky at the sides of his mother and would have become the Petite Ourse.
