Arcada de penique (webcomic)
The Pénates were Etruscan divinities before becoming Roman divinities. They are in charge of the guard of the hearth and more particularly of the goods and the pantry (étymologiquement Pénates comes from the Latin term Penus : pantry ), from where the expression to regain its home , which means to return at home.
The word “Home” is male. (it is seldom employed with female, like in the singular).
Origin
The people, in their migrations, did not forget to bring with them, not only the worship of their country of origin, but especially the ancient statues, venerated by their ancestors. These idols became a kind of Talisman in the new States or the new cities, and it is what one called the Pénates gods. The small villages, the simple hamlets, the humble houses had their, like the big cities and the vast States. Troy had its Palladium, statue of Minerve, protective and guardian of its destinies; Rome had its Home.
Caption
According to the legend, the original Pénates would come from Troy. It is Énée which, while fleeing with his/her father Anchise on the back and its son Iule with the hand, would have carried them. In Troy, they had, seems it, the same role as that which was reserved for them for Rome.
In Énéide , Virgile (I, 371 and suiv.) into known as:
“For these questions Énée sighs, and drawing its voice from the bottom of its chest:
" O goddess, says it, if I went up until the origin first my evils, and that you had the leisure to listen to the history of it, Vesper, before the end of my account, would have closed the doors of Olympe and the day. Left the Troy antique (if the name of Troy came to your ears) and wandering of sea at sea, the storm by chance pushed us on the coasts of Libya. I am the Énée piles which transports with me on my fleet the Home concealed to the enemy, Énée whose reputation went until the top of the ether. I seek Italy, ground of my fathers, who go down from large the Jupiter. ” (transl. Mr. Rat)
Worship
The worship of these gods is originating in Phrygie and Samothrace. Tarquin Old the, informed in the religion of the Cabires, raised a single temple with three divinities samothracians who later were called the Home of the Romans.
The families freely chose their Home, among the large gods or the déifiés great men (generally two, one for food, the other for drink). These gods, whom it is important not to confuse with the gods Lares, were transmitted like a heritage, of wire father. In each dwelling, one held a place, at least a tiny room, often a furnace bridge and sometimes a for them Sanctuaire (named laraire).
