Arbon is a Ville of Switzerland canton of Thurgovie. By its population, it is the third city of the canton.

Geography

The city is located on a spit of land which advances in the Lac of Constancy.

History

The origin of Arbon goes up at the time Roman: at the beginning of the lVe century, the Romains built on the current site of the church and the castle a fortified town which they called Arbor Felix. The city itself was founded in XIIIe century by Eberhard von Waldenburg, bishop of Constance.

At the XVIIIe century, the city develops thanks to the trade of the flax. It becomes a center of cloth printing of cotton. Created in 1854, the Saurer company strongly contributes to the industrialization of the small town. It has there will manufacture civil trucks until in 1983 and of the military trucks until in 1986.

In 1998, Arbon amalgamated with the common neighbor of Frasnacht.
