It constitutes north-eastern suburbs of Oyonnax.

History

ARBENT, a green city, an open commune .

ARBENT is a town of 4.000 inhabitants located within a pastoral framework in the middle of Plastic Valley, member of the 8 cities of the Community of Communes of Oyonnax.

Commune industrial, forest, flowered, its surface extends on 2349 ha including 1000 ha of forests of fir tree and spruces. Formerly very employed by the local tourneries, the boxwood contributed to its time to make known ARBENT through the objects manufactured on its territory Nowadays, the plasturgie producing innumerable articles in all kinds supplanted the material wood, this activity innovating made it possible to create many jobs. Equipped with a powerful industrial fabric, enriched by a range of craftsmen and companies of all sizes, it is supplemented by a gravitational sales network while remaining within a landscape framework of medium mountains, privileging the alliance of industry and tourism.

The schools, 5 schools and 1 college, make it possible to the pupils to follow their schooling of the nursery school until the secondary studies.

Many associations and the inhabitants have communal rooms, of buildings vast and modern such as the village hall “Spaces Leisures”, the gymnasium new bright burning coal “Spaces Sporting Maurice NICOD” inaugurated on November 13rd, 2006 by the Minister for Youth and the Sports and Community life Mr Jean François LAMOUR. All this equipment with the assistance of the Social center and Cultural and other social structures meets the needs for Arbanais, proposing a range of educational activities related on the sports and the leisures.

The daily life arbanaise qualified the pleasant one, proposes to be a model for a town of equivalent size, ARBENT chose to be twinned in 2005 with the town of Plouhinec in Finistere.
