Arbane

The arbane is a Cépage of white grape France.

Origin and geographical distribution

The arbane is an old type of vine of tank of the Aube. It belongs to the Encépagement of name Champagne but it is not cultivated practically any more because of its late maturity and its poor yield. In France it covers 1 hectare (1998).

The Country cottage Kid-Diligent with Buxeuil still produces a champagne „Vieilles Vines Arbane Type of vine “in dominant Arbane and the Aubry house with Jouy-the-Rheims produces a Cuvée resulting from the type of vines Petit meslier, Arbane and white Pinot.

Characters ampelographic

  • End of the young branch flattened, aranéeux greenish white.
  • Young people glabrous, coppered.
  • adult Sheets, with 5 lobes (sometimes 7 lobes). Petiolar sine in quadrant, narrow side sines and at funds acute, of the angular teeth, very narrow, a pubescent limb.

Farming aptitudes

Maturity is of second time: 15 days after the chasselas.

Technological potential

The bunches are small and the bays are of small size. The bunch is conical and of average compactness. The type of vine is fairly vigorous and he is a weak producer. He is rather sensitive to the Oïdium and the Mildiou. The arbane fears the late frosts. Because of its late maturity, it did not mature although one year out of three. In the hot years, it produces an excellent very bouqueté, dry and nervous wine.
