Aravis

The massive Aravis or of Aravis is a Massif mountainous the Alps. It extends between the Agglomération from Annecy in the west, the Vallée of Arve in north and the east, and the Val of Arly in the south. It is consisted of the Massif Terminals of the Chaîne of Aravis and Plateau of Glières.

Geology : Like all the solid masses of Préalpes, the chain of Aravis is made up mainly of Calcaire (and its derivatives).

History

In the night from September 21st to 22nd 1792, the French troops of the Moutesquiou general do not invade surprised the duchy of Savoy, obliging the Savoyard army, the king and of many civils servant and members of the clergy to be taken refuge with the Piedmont. The parishes rise against anti-nuns measurements and revolted decide to make bridge of Dingy which orders the entry of the valley of Thônes, their first line of resistance. Snowing up : According to the files of the ski stations, the Années 1950 had known a cycle of deficit of snow. Winter 1963/1964 was one winter without snow (only one total height of 99 cm snow fell for all the winter, against an average of 422 cm in normal year). The six following winters 1964/1965… 1969/1970, had been very snow-covered with a record always held by winter 1969/1970 with 811 cm. Winter 1974/1975 also had was very snow-covered. A second cycle of deficit took place between 1988 and 2002, except for winters 1994/1995 and 1998/1999. Last four winters 2002/2003, 2003/2004, 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 knew a snowing up higher than the average, contrary to winter 2006/2007.
