Ararat (: 6809 inhabitants) is a city (" city") west of the state of Victoria in Australia to 205 km of Melbourne. It is the only town of Australia rested by colonists Chinese.
The city owes its name in Horatio Wills which, when it passed in the area to go to settle more in the south, baptized a hill overhanging the city “Mont Ararat” in reference to the Arche of Noah.
The city was created in 1857 by Chinese who had found gold, but the exploitation stopped very quickly. In 1863, colonists French planted their first vines there.
The economy of the city is based on agriculture: tease, bovine meat and vine.
The city has a school of higher formation, " the Northern Melbourne Institute off TAFE".
