Arapaima gigas

The paiche , still called pirarucu or arapaïma ( Arapaima gigas ) is a fish of the family of Osteoglossidés, alive in Amazonia.

Its mass, of two hundred kilograms, and its length, being able to reach four meters fifty, make of it the largest fish Dulçaquicole. Its growth is fast - 10 kg/an - and its breeding, inexpensive (4 €/kg), makes it possible to supply the tables of South America with a fish with the soft flesh, slightly sweetened and with the edges very few. This carnivore defends itself very well when it is fished with the cane but it survives badly a handing-over with water.
