Arapaho

The Arapahos (also called Arapahoes or People of Cow in French) are a tribe Amerindian which did not live at the time of European colonization in the plains of the east of the Colorado and Wyoming. They were allied close relations of the Cheyenne S and generally of the Sioux. They formed with Cheyennes an enclave of Language algonquine in the West. Arapahos of North live today on the reserve Wind To rivet in the north of Lander (Wyoming).

It would seem that Arapahos lived in the Minnesota and the North Dakota before the arrival Europeans. The expansion of the latter would have pushed them towards the west in Colorado, Wyoming and the Kansas. When the the United States placed the majority of the Indians in reserves, a group of Arapahos was sent in Oklahoma. They shared the reserve with Cheyennes and the cultures cheyenne and arapaho evolved/moved jointly.

Arapahos lived in Tipi S in skin of Bison. Before being sent in the reserves, they often migrated following the example herds of bisons; they had thus conceived their tipis in manner to transport them easily. It was affirmed that a whole village could leave in only one hour.

In the beginning, they used Chien S to draw from the sledges carrying their goods. When Arapahos discovered the horses Europeans, they realized that they could travel more quickly and further by replacing their dogs by horses.

Later, they became large commercial by selling Fourrure S with the other tribes and with the not-Indians. Many thinks that the name Arapaho comes from the word Pawnee meaning commercial .

The children fished and often drove out with their fathers to divert itself. Whereas they had much more drudgeries than Arapahos current, they still had time to practice many Play X. One of these plays consisted of a hoop equipped with a net and a stick which it was necessary to launch in the center of the net. One will note the similude with the set of darts.

Nowadays, certain Arapahos launched out in the games of chance and industry casino S. Some have their own casino; one will quote particularly the Arapaho Casino located in Wyoming.
