Aranđelovac
Aranđelovac , in Serb Cyrillic Sr Аранђеловац, is a city and a municipality of Serbia located in the district of Šumadija, to 76 km of Belgrade. In 2002, the city counted: 24309 inhabitants and the municipality of which it is the center: 48129.
In 2007, the population was estimated at: 24887 inhabitants.
History
The prince Miloš Obrenović often resided at Bukovička Banja. In 1858, it decided to build in the village of Vrbica a church dedicated to the Archange Saint-Gabriel and to join together the villages of Vrbica and Bukovik to form the town of Aranđelovac (“the city of the Archangel”).The municipality of Aranđelovac played a big role in the history. February 15th, 1804, it is in the village of Orašac, located at 6 km of the city, which began the First revolt Serb against the Turks under the direction of Karageorges. This date is celebrated like that of the birth of the modern Serb State.
Characteristics
Aranđelovac is especially famous for its mineral springs, which were of great utility to the writer Dositej Obradović in 1811. To the request express of Miloš Obrenović, the water of Bukovik was transported to the court and, at the beginning of the 20th century, one started to bottle it to market it.The city has the park of Bukovička Banja which extends on more 21ha. The current hotel Staro zdanje had, at the origin, to be used as residence of summer to the princes of the dynasty of the Obrenović.
The thermal spa of Bukovička Banja is in the municipality of Aranđelovac.
