Others
Aragonese is strictly speaking the Romance language spoken in Aragon, except for an Eastern band (Franja de Ponent) which crosses south to north the three Aragonese provinces where the Catalan seems to be practiced of long time (between 50.000 and 60.000 speakers). So with the Middle Ages she had been spoken on almost all the Aragonese territory, she moved back for the XVIII century to be more spoken today only in some Pyrenean valleys (In particular, those of Echo, Ansó, Tena, Bielsa, Chistau and Ribagorce Occidentale in the province of Huesca and Altas Cinco Villas in the province of Saragossa and region of Jacetania). There is also a certain vitality of this language in the pre-Pyrenees and in the areas of Somontano and Monegros, in the south of Huesca. One evaluates the number of additional speakers with 10.000 and 45.000 the experts. Since 1976 one proposed a common language (www.consello.org), which postulates the promotion of the alive dialects, and their teaching in the schools, as well as the compilation and the study of onomastics, and the oral tradition. In the Eastern territories, where Aragonese is still spoken by a majority, the alternative position is represented by the Company of Aragonese Linguistics (www.sla-web.org). One indicates also sometimes under the name of Aragonese, the regional Castilian of Aragon.
