Apple trees (the Loire)

Pommiers is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps. Located in the old historical province of the Drill.

Geography

History

The first traces of human establishments in Pommiers go back to the Bronze Age. One indeed discovered burials of this time on the territory of the commune but however not yet to the current site of the village.

The Gallo-Roman origin of the village seems to go up at the time of the emperor Trajan (98-117). It remains of this time of the always visible vestiges: limit milliary, principal furnace bridge of the church (an employed again sarcophagus), marble column also employed again in the church.

The Middle Ages

It is in IXe century that the first monks settle in Pommiers. These Benedictines build the first church of the village, the Saint-Julien church, which is used today as dwelling. To the 10th century, the monks adhere to the reform clunisienne and as they thrive under the crook of Cluny, they build the current church of Apple trees, Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul.

With the turning of XIVe and XVe century at the time of the One hundred Year old Guerre the village is strengthened and surrounded by a rampart.

The modern time

In 1789, with the Revolution, the monks are driven out of their priory which is confiscated and sold like national good. They are henceforth various middle-class families which will acquire the priory and to live it by transforming it into castle.

In 1946, a oblate, Marie-Therese de Rosemont repurchases the castle and founds an association which accommodates priests in retirement there. But in 1990, association not having more the means of maintaining the castle, sells it as all its dependences with the General advice of the Loire which since restores and the fact of visiting.

  • Festival overall Music. Born in August 2004, it takes place each year during the second decade of August. Overall music was given for objective to promote the chamber music of any time.
